The Fight Against Breast Cancer: Going Green

Seaweeds Used In The Fight Against Cancers...

In the past few years, a number of women have turned to green vegetables in an effort to attempt to lower their risk of breast cancer. With the disease affecting as many as one in eight American women, it is only natural that women look to natural remedies in an attempt to improve their odds in the fight against this all-too-prevalent kind of cancer.

Increasingly, though, researchers are looking to other green food in an effort to cut breast cancer risk-green tea. While black tea and chamomile tea have long been thought to soothe nerves and combat depression, it is green tea which is making headlines in the world of cancer research.

A number of animal and laboratory studies have shown that green tea can be highly effective in fighting tumors in the mammary tissues. But only recently has the scientific community been able to address the effect of green tea on breast cancer in human beings.

A Case in Point

One significant study indicated that green tea extract prevents breast cancer cells from producing a chemical that leads to tumors. University of Southern California researcher Anna H. Wu and her team noted the dietary and lifestyle choices of more than 500 women with breast cancer and nearly 600 women without cancer in Los Angeles. The women were of Asian descent and ranged in age from 25 to 74. The researchers found that the healthy women were far more likely to consume green tea. And those breast cancer patients who did drink green tea were likely to consume less of it than the healthy women were. In fact, drinking less than six tablespoons of green tea a day appeared to cut a woman's risk for breast cancer by as much as 30 percent.
Unfortunately, women who consume a great deal of black tea do not appear to be protected from the onset of breast cancer. Since black tea is more popular in Western nations than green tea, such news can be disappointing. But the fact that green tea's popularity is gaining strength in the West means that Western women could enjoy the same breast cancer protection that green tea drinkers in the Far East have enjoyed for years.

Green Tea and Breast Cancer Recurrence

But what about women who have already experienced breast cancer? Is it possible for them to reduce their chances of a recurrence by downing cups of green tea?

As you might expect, scientific researchers have been asking the same questions. For instance, a Japanese research team addressed those issues in their article, "Regular Consumption of Green Tea and the Risk of Breast Cancer Recurrence: Follow-up Study from the Hospital-based Epidemiologic Research Program at Aichi Cancer Center  (HERPACC), Japan."

As the Asian researchers noted, various studies indicate that green tea can inhibit the development and growth of tumors. Given that fact, they thought it helpful to examine the link between regular green tea consumption and the risk of a recurrence of breast cancer.

The researchers studied 1160 new surgical cases of female breast cancers between June of 1990 and August of 1998. About 12 percent, or 133 of the subjects, appeared to experience a cancer recurrence. But those women who consumed three or more cups of green tea each day were less likely to see their breast cancer make a comeback.

The reduced rate of recurrence was most likely among those women with stage 1 and stage 2 breast cancer. However, the link was not apparent for those women with more advanced stages of the cancer.

Cautiously Optimistic

The researchers cautioned that these results need to be interpreted carefully. However, they do suggest that breast cancer patients who drink green tea  daily may be able to prevent their cancer from returning-especially if their cancer was diagnosed in the early stages. Therefore, the research team has reason to be cautiously optimistic about the cancer-fighting capabilities of green tea.

A Closer Look at Green Tea

In order to fully understand the potential of green tea as a cancer prevention method, it is first necessary to examine the composition of the beverage. There are a number of compounds that make up green tea, including polyphenols and flavonoids, caffeine, carbohydrates, tannins, fluoride, and aluminum.

As far as cancer prevention is concerned, the most critical substance is the polyphenols-chemicals which act as antioxidants. These substances block cell replication enzymes and therefore prevent the growth of cancer in the process.

In a number of studies, researchers gave rats with breast tumors green tea to consume. These rats were then compared with rats which drank water alone. Interestingly enough, the rats which had been drinking green tea saw their tumor size reduced considerably. In addition, the studies indicated that new tumors were less likely to develop in rats which drank green tea.

How Much is Enough?

Still, you might be wondering how much green tea you would need to consume in order to significantly reduce your risk of developing breast cancer. Generally, doctors say that you need to consume at least three to four cups of green tea each day-without additives such as milk or sugar-in order to see an impact.

Does decaffeinated green tea offer the same health benefits? Actually, that depends upon the manner in which the caffeine has been removed from the tea. If a solvent has been used to decaffeinate the tea, it will contain reduced levels of EGCG, lessening its effectiveness as a cancer prevention tool. You might also consider taking your green tea in capsule form, although there is little hard evidence to indicate that the capsules are as effective as the beverage in cutting cancer risk.

A Final Note

A woman who has experienced breast cancer has no guarantees that her cancer will never reappear. Even if she begins drinking green tea, she might still undergo a recurrence. However, the available evidence suggests that her risk of facing a second bout of breast cancer decreases significantly when she becomes a green tea drinker.

Mobile Marketing: Why It Works & My Marketing Budget Is Small. How Can I Make The Most Of It?

From the PC to the Mobile Phone...

Mobile marketing is a type of marketing that is done throughout the world. It incorporates the use of the mobile phone to provide information, advertisements and other types of promotion. There is a great wealth of value in this type of product and service simply because of its ability to get right to the customer at the right time. By promoting in this manner, mobile marketing allows individuals to get just what they want when they need it. And, it allows businesses to reach their customers right on target.

Marketing is marketing. It is about finding the ways to reach consumers at the right time. It is a valuable tool that allows others to know who the company is, what they have to offer and why they should be taken advantage of. In the mobile industry, this is all very important. The mobile phone has become something that people just do not leave their homes without. It is a tool that connects them with their friends and family, their boss, and even their favorite retailers. It allows them to correspond in emails and text messages and it allows them to stay connected to the rest of the world.

In short, the mobile phone is something that everyone must have. The combination of the mobile phone and marketing techniques can lead to increased sales and promotion as well as convenience and affordability. It works so well because of just what it is. It is a tool for consumers to stay in touch with just what they need and for businesses to provide for that need. Mobile marketing works well because it allows for the right action at the right time, period.

There is no limit to what this type of marketing can promote or in what format. But, it is essential that those who plan to take advantage of these dollars to do so in a timely fashion before others get the jump start. My Marketing Budget Is Small. How Can I Make The Most Of It? For example, it may not make sense or be necessary to market consistently all year long. Are their times when your particular industry is slow and customers are not likely to purchase? Conversely, are their times during the year when customers are more likely to be in the market for your product or service?

Schedule your marketing activities to take advantage of these peak times and to avoid what I call the "valleys" (when no one is in the market for what you are selling). Aim to persuade as many people as possible to buy from you when they are in the buying mood. Ever notice how health clubs market heavily in January and in the spring? They know people are more likely to be focused on getting in shape at the beginning of a new year, and before summer and swimsuit season arrive. So they spend more marketing dollars and focus their promotional efforts during these times of year and they maintain a lower profile the rest of the year. Ask yourself these questions: What "seasonality" exists in my business? How can I schedule my marketing to take advantage?

This is the hottest thing to hit mobile since 2010….

Green Drinks - A Great Way To Get Your Greens

Although Green Drink mixes have had a small group of fans up until this point do to their bad taste, there are now Green Drink mixes available with great flavors that are also plentiful in nutrients. Green Drink mixes have recently become very popular because of the large part of the vitamins and minerals that they provide with ease and convenience. Even a person who is extremely devoted to getting the recommended 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables can find it hard some days.

According to the National Cancer Institute, 87% of US families don't get the daily fruits and vegetables needed to stay healthy. As far as fiber is concerned, most Americans only eat 15 grams of fiber per day, which is less than half of the 35 grams that health and nutrition experts recommended in order to prevent heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. In one single serving, most green drink mixes contain 6 grams of fiber.

The best green drink mixes are made up of inulin and oligofructose (OF), which are two soluble fibers that come from chicory root and are packed with nutritional goodness. While in the body, this type of fibers increase the numbers of friendly bacteria by providing the necessary nutrients needed so the friendly bacteria can multiply. Fiber also rids the intestinal walls of unwanted waste and toxins.

Both inulin and oligofructose improve the digestibility of calcium and can increasing bone production and slow the rate of bone breakdown. Although we cannot fully digest grasses because we can't digest the compounds, that grasses and other plants use to maintain their structure (fibers), green drink mixes contain grasses because they are extremely rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants hunt free radicals.

Damage from these free radicals is the number one cause of aging and also may lead to heart disease and cancer. Green drink mixes that contain barley grass provide about 2 servings of green vegetables just from the single ingredient. Barley grass, a nutrient-dense substance, contains many antioxidants that help fight caner and boost the immunity. For example, radish sprouts, which contain vitamins A and C, folate, calcium, and potassium, have superior antioxidant action and are a common ingredient in green drink mixes.

Chlorophyll for example, triggers biochemical reactions in nearly all living organisms and is also important along with the antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber found in a good green drink mix product. The chlorophyll molecule contains magnesium, which is vital for muscle contraction, the conduction of nerves, and maintaining heart and blood pressure. Because nearly 70-80% of American adults don't get an adequate amount of green vegetables, they also aren't getting enough magnesium in their diet.

Most green drink mix products also contain wheat grass, which is full of valuable nutrients such as beta-carotene, riboflavin, folic acid, tyrosine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid. A good green drink mix product should also contain vegetables, leafy greens, and other nutrients, such as blue green algae. Even though Green Drinks are valuable to everyone, people with leaky gut syndrome, autoimmune disease, cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis benefit the most from green drink mixes in their daily diet.

Because the vitamins and minerals in green drink mixes can be easily metabolized, people with leaky gut syndrome are able to get their needed vitamins and minerals back into their system in a soothing, natural way. High quality green drink mixes also contain vegetables rich in carotenoids, which show great results for immunomodulating effects in people with autoimmune disease. Green drink mixes contain many whole foods such as cabbage, inulin, oligofructose, radish, tomato, and kelp, which feed the body and help fight cancer.

Green tea, broccoli, cabbage and carrots, which are found in a high quality powdered green drink mix, have great cardio protective effects. The broccoli and cabbage combination is able to reduce LDL cholesterol by 8.5% after only 9 weeks of use. Beta-carotene, which is found in carrots, also decreases cholesterol levels in the liver by up to 44%. Diets rich in vegetables, which contain calcium, magnesium, and potassium, helps to keep bones strong and prevent osteoporosis.

When choosing a green drink mix product, make sure that it is one that has a good amount of fiber to help the bone-building minerals be absorbed into the system. Along with the antioxidants found in barley grass and radish sprouts, there are many nutrients that are found in green drink mixes that provide significant health benefits. For instance, lycopene, which is a plant-based antioxidant compound that may protect against cancer and heart disease, is also more powerful than beta-carotene, the best-known carotenoid.

With more than 70 studies examining the link between lycopene and cancer, strong evidence suggests that lycopene can protect against prostate, lung, and stomach cancers, and perhaps cancers of the cervix, colon, rectum, esophagus, mouth, and pancreas. Lycopene may also fight heart disease and prevent congestive heart failure. Because green drink mixes contain alkalinizing foods, they can help balance out the increased intake of processed foods, which has led to an imbalance of acid in the body's system.

For instance, although lemons and grapefruits are considered acidic, their action in the body actually makes them an alkalinizing food. These alkalinizing foods also support bone health because they contain potassium and magnesium, which are two minerals that are very sparse in the body because they are depleted after ingesting a large amount of acid-producing food. In fact, potassium and magnesium from whole foods can improve bone mineral density for many older individuals.

Although some green drink mixes taste worse than plain old vegetables, there are high quality green drink mixes with a natural, fruit, or mint flavors. These added flavors can turn the most ardent veggie avoider into an instant fan. Plus the benefits of drinking green drink mixes are the almost instant intake of chlorophyll, magnesium, antioxidants, plant enzymes, and fiber. When the person taking the Green Drink mix realizes that they are combing good taste with an instant intake of the above nutrients, the value and convenience of the green drink mix becomes extremely obvious.

These green drink mixes can provide a great-tasting, ultra-pure, whole-food way to get the essential nutrients that most Americans are lacking. In turn, these nutrients can help prevent cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, while enhancing energy, supporting digestion, and boosting your immune system. Green drink mixes and other great supplements can be found at your local health food store or internet Health food store.

Is it Smart to Invest in Green & Eco-Friendly Stocks?

The socially conscious investor will find a wide range of Eco-friendly stocks and mutual funds to choose from, both small and large. Due to the influence of world-wide concern over global pollution and carbon dioxide, the investor will find many large corporations are snapping up green companies to add to their list of products.

A recent acquisition by Royal Philips Electronics (headquartered in the Netherlands) of Color Kinetics, trading on the NASDAQ as CLRK is a great example. Color Kinetics was a ten-year-old company that produced environmentally friendly lighting through its enhancement of the LED (light-emitting-diode) technology to create a new type of illumination. Color Kinetics utilized digitalized technology to create a new source of controllable illumination.

The merger between the giant Philips and Color Kinetics will enhance its Philips Lighting Solutions market in the LED technology. Color Kinetic has existing installations world wide and a huge customer list, with relationships in China and the UK. Philips, in turn will, provide its 60-country-presence to the Eco-friendly technology of Color Kinetics. Investors should not rule large conglomerates in their search for Eco-friendly stock.

Small Cap Companies: For investors that enjoy investing directly in small cap companies there are numerous opportunities for investors in AMEX. These stocks are very reasonable in price and may provide future gains as going green becomes an integral part of business and not just a slogan. I have watched some Eco-friendly companies grow over the past several years and the following is a highlight of some interesting stocks.

Environmental Power Corp. trades under the ticker EPG on the AMEX exchange. This stock currently sells in the $5 range. The company and its subsidiaries engage in the ownership, development and operation of renewable energy facilities in the United States. EPG owns 83 leasehold of land. It has plants that utilize animal and food industry waste to produce bio-mass and other forms of alternative fuel that utilize their renewable energy biogas.

A good reason to give this company a good look is that it filed a notice with the SEC that it has a firm commitment from an underwriter to make and offering of over four million shares of his stock. If the offering goes forward the company could realize a gain in the price as well as an infusion of over 22 million dollars. There is another stock that has great promise in the fuel cell area. This area has room to grow. I particularly like Fuel Cell Energy.

It trades under the stock ticker FCEL. The company has a market cap of approximately 650 million. The company is in the development, manufacturing and sale of fuel cells power plants for use in electrical power plants. Its pipeline products are geared for use in health care facilities, hotels, hospitals, universities, governmental offices and water treatment centers.

The company is located in Connecticut with office in Korea, Japan, Canada and Europe. This $9 stock has no where to go but up in the long term. Another reason to think twice about this company is the major holders of stock in the company. Wells Fargo Bank, Barclays, Deutsche Bank and other prominent funds are invested in FCEL. A stock that is a good value, but lacks appreciation is Calgon Carbon Corp. in Pennsylvania. The company trades under the ticker CCC.

The company is in the business of providing means to clean the air and water. The company has been around for a good period of time and it appears that 2007 may be its year to take a solid place in Eco-friendly stocks. It currently sells in the $13 range and deserves a good review. There are numerous ways to get into the green, Eco-friendly stocks. There are mutual funds and indexes available. In addition there are segments in wind, health foods and solar energy that have opportunities for investment.

How Much Pride can Bullies take in Bullying?

The Facts on Cyber Bullying

Cyber bullying is the newest type of bullying and has not been studied as much as traditional forms of bullying. Many children report being bullied via the internet or cell phone and the effects can be devastating. Children also report that bullies spread rumors and say other mean things about them online where many different people can see it. The potential audience for cyber bullying is unlimited making it even more appealing to bullies. Bullies will also threaten their victims online and belittle them for their own amusement.

Girls are twice as likely as boys to be cyber bullies as well as be targeted by cyber bullies. Normally boys are the most likely children to bully others but this is not true with cyber bullying. Boys tend to physically bully others while girls use emotional methods, which can be perfectly carried out over the computer. Cyber bullying also can be anonymous and many children who are the victims of cyber bullying never know who was bullying them. Cyber bullying is not restricted to school either, it can happen anywhere children have access to computers or cell phones. Bullying used to be confined to school, but with cyber bullying can now reach children anywhere.

Cyber bullying commonly occurs in Instant Messaging and in chat rooms. Cyber bullying can also occur in blogs and on websites when a bully posts damaging things about their victim. The internet makes bullying easy and bullies can torment victims in new ways. Using the internet gives cyber bullies an even more devious way to humiliate others than traditional bullying. About half of pre teens tell an adult about their experiences with cyber bullying and this number drops as children get older. Cyber bullying also makes it easier for the victim to retaliate against the bully as they can just as easily post their own damaging responses. This ease of use makes perpetuating the bullying cycle more common. This is not necessarily the best idea, as it will probably make the bullying worse and only reinforce the idea that bullying is ok.

Cyber bullying can affect anyone and the same stereotypes that apply to traditional bullying do not apply to cyber bullying. Cyber bullies can pick on anyone, even those more confident and popular than themselves. Cyber bullies can even pick on children older and bigger than them because of the anonymous nature of the internet. If a cyber bully wants to hurt another person, the internet gives them the perfect vehicle to do so.

Parents must take steps to stop and prevent cyber bullying just like other types of bullying. Any form of bullying can have serious consequences and cyber bullying can be particularly dangerous because it can reach so many people and be so humiliating. Take cyber bullying seriously so that your child does not fall victim, or bully others. Make your child aware that cyber bullying is unacceptable and if they are the target they should tell an adult right away. Taking action quickly is the best way to stop cyber bullying before it gets out of hand.

Warning To Poker Players: Don't Bluff Your Way Out Of Anxiety

http://0d743gt51ingeqbve8n3yp6o8e.hop.clickbank.net/

Poker is a card game that involves gambling on a card's superior value. The players place a bet into a central pot and whoever holds the "hand" with the highest value wins. The game was first played in New Orleans in 1829 but other historians say that the game was developed by the Persians many centuries before.

While it is already a popular card game, it has again become a gambling craze. Aside from the World Series of Poker which is the challenge of choice for professional players, other poker enthusiasts can choose to play in other smaller tournaments, or they can even try the on-line poker service which may be a different environment from how it is played on a regular table.

Still, these modern means of playing their favorite card game is drawing crowds and millions of dollars in pot money and winnings.

This is exactly how the game is played:

Poker is a card game where two people or more people play around a table, with two cards on hand for each player. Colored chips have assigned monetary values and are used as betting tokens.

After placing their bets, the card dealer shows a set of three cards from the deck. This is what they call the "flop cards." The players then think of strategies that could heighten their chances of winning.

http://0d743gt51ingeqbve8n3yp6o8e.hop.clickbank.net/

Then the betting begins again. The fourth card, or what they call "the turn" shows up, which spurs the players to bet again. The last card picked from the deck is called "the river." After this, the players then have to show their best five card combination.

The player with the best combination, which means the set with the highest value, wins the pot. This is how the traditional poker is played in the United States. However, a number of game variants have been developed such as draw poker, stud poker, and community card poker.

If studied in-depth, Poker is more than just a form of gambling. It is certainly more than just playing with cards. This game involves critical thinking and correct timing.

To be played in winning form, a player must learn the important technique and skill called a "bluff." Good poker players also know how to control their emotions and facial expressions, hence the term "poker face."

Those who easily get affected by other players sometimes reveal their thoughts and planned card moves through their reactions.

http://0d743gt51ingeqbve8n3yp6o8e.hop.clickbank.net/

The popularity of the game has reached global proportions. Some sports channels like ESPN even cover numerous poker tournaments.

But there is more to see in these card tournaments than just the card play or the winner's pot. By watching poker on television, people can see the different looks on the players' faces.

While they usually try to conceal their facial expressions, you can still see a slight change in their expression when as they think of the next move or get stung by their own mistake in playing the cards.

Sometimes, poker players can even look very agitated, nervous, scared or worried, all at the same time.

The winnings in poker can be as high as several millions of dollars. No wonder, many players especially those who have not reached the ranks of the poker elite can still be victimized by their own anxiety while playing cards.

Like in other games, people who play poker feel the anxiety because of many reasons. Anxiety in poker games are often seen as a hassle to the players, since this causes them to look bad to the other players. This means that the cards you are holding may not be a winning pair.

Anxiety can bring the player down, by just feeling it and showing it to other players. For the world-class professional players, the anxiety comes from the fear of becoming an "instant celebrity." Some professional poker players see their game or job as a very cerebral activity.

To them, the mere thought of making cerebral poker a means to attain instant celebrity is just dreadful. The loss of privacy and the intrigues associated with fame is just too much for some professional poker champions who like the game to remain a solitary pursuit, free from the limelight and fanfare.

Anxiety treatments, of late, have become viable alternatives for those who have been in the poker circuit for quite some time. All the years of pent-up anger, frustration and disappointment in playing poker had already accumulated in their system.

Nothing short of a treatment is necessary to enable them to regain their edge in the game. Lowering their anxiety level may actually take stopping them from playing their favorite game for some days or even weeks.

Through progressive counseling, a therapist can help a player vent his anger or frustrations; whether it be for calling someone's bluff and then losing the game... or for always failing to make it to the top spot of the World Series of Poker.

For some people, anxiety is just a temporary discomfort that quickly fades away after a game. But for those who really need anxiety treatments, a quick visit to the doctor or therapist is a must.

Anxiety is something no one should gamble with. Indeed, the game demands even the world's best player to remain stoic, unperturbed by the ups and downs of the card play.

But for serious cases of anxiety, donning that "poker face" may be the last move you should do.
