Sports and Play in the African American Communities!

As I was growing up as a young kid in Los Angeles, what I remembered most about all the kids in the neighborhood was that the majority played from morning till dawn, or until we were called in to eat dinner; it was sort of a call and response, where you left the game you were playing in exchange for some good eaten!

In my neighborhood, just like most overflowing with playful kids with lots of energy waiting to let loose, sports and play was always the order of the day, I was raised one of those kids who had learned to eat, drink, and dream sports and play!  As a young child we use to do anything that required us to run, jump, and get physical we all did it, because by this time my older brother and I had moved to a small town in Pennsylvania with my father and his new family, we fit in right away because we were athletic, and in the girls terms we were "Jackson Lookalikes", and coming from Los Angeles did not hurt!

We were both in our teenage years, and because of all the sports and play around the neighborhood, all we did was eat anything that was 'not healthy for anyone' because we exercised through the day and into the night, our metabolisms was functioning excellently keeping us healthy and well!

Starting in Junior High through my College Athletic efforts for San Jose City College, which was even more taxing physically, but I was in the best shape of my life, and did not hold fast to that relationship with my excellent lifestyle of working out a few times a day, and eating anything I wanted because I understood that it would be fuel to burn off later!

Lifestyle changes while sliding into life of marriage and family:

What happened after college ended was a blur, because once I got married during college, my metabolism had all but vanished due to lake of exercise, and still eating what I wanted to eat during my three (3) pregnancies, I mean my wife pregnancies, in which we both started out as light weights, but ended as heavy weights, all due to wrong lifestyle eating choices...

This attitude continued for years until I was faced with a critical care issue that my healthcare provider caused because they put me on a wrong medication and did not monitor it which ultimately caused my health issues so this is why I decided to manage my own healthcare (self-care).

After being diagnosed with a multitude of health issues, this partially contributed or lead me to my lifestyle I had settled into, eating dead or processed foods, instead of eating whole plant based foods which I knew was the key to longevity but by this time my addiction to unhealthy processed foods was ingrained into my Brain and DNA, up to this point I was conditioned by my past and future family and friends, indoctrinating my eating lifestyle with what everyone is eating in the house (JUNK), and to change would upset the scheme of things!

But the healthcare system had a golden opportunity at the time of my diagnoses, they had the chance to explain to me that if I change my eating habits, and start eating nutrient dense foods will nutritionally balance my body to a healthier me; but this did not take place, I was sent downstairs to see the Doctor who handles people with mental issues, why I do not know!

This doctor sent me be back upstairs and told me that nothing was wrong with me but he will look into why I was sent to him...  Finally someone other than me saw that my doctor was not doing his job but just passing his patients onto other healthcare professionals that may keep them because there must be something wrong with them because the doctor would not have sent me to him!

Moving Forward

A college buddy and myself started the "Couch Potato" 13 Week Run/Walk (Roving) Program with me, which can be found in 'The Beginning Runner's Handbook; this also included changing our eating habits, we both finished the 13-week walk/run program which starts off light and gradually ends at full running of the course; once I started just running the same route we had walk/run, this lasted  for a few month until we both stopped due to our busy schedules from our demanding jobs; doing so was probably the biggest mistake of my life, I had lost loads of weight, felt great, clear minded, and living a clean and healthy lifestyle...  As for my running partner, he is still running, eating right, and living a life of eating a plant based lifestyle.

Moving forward to 2010, where my wife and I are Empty Nesters, and going on our planned vacation with our friends (another husband and wife couple), we vacationed in  Punta Cana, The Dominican Republic, at an all-inclusive resort, which by the way was breath taking, and Five Stars all the way!

After being there for 7 days we came home and I had got excited because I had discovered that my weight had decreased by 7 lbs., but I looked huge in my pictures, and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and these really showed off my unappealing fat pockets in all the wrong places!

So, it was time to commit to my own health and wellness, and start changing my lifestyle of eating and drinking all the wrong foods, and come up with a plan of corrective actions to attach my weight, and overall health and wellness so I may live to see my Great Grand Kids grow to maturity.

My plan was to start immediately by arming myself with new knowledge that will retrain myself of the wrong lifestyle eating habits, to a more whole foods, plant based eating lifestyle that will allow me to get rid of the dead foods that I am feeding my body with daily, instead of filling my body with whole, organic, farm grown, fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, and all other nutrient dense foods available to us all.

Giving this lifestyle change a chance to show results fast enough was not a concern of mine because I had educated myself first by reading Dr. Joel Fuhrman MD book "Eat To Live" (ETL), this book literally change the way I look at foods, taste foods, and make my food choices on a daily bases, it was the first thing I needed to do and recommend that before anyone starts this lifestyle change, must first consult their physicians for clearance, but this should not prevent you from starting the reading of "Eat To Live"...

Once you have dialed in your doctors on what you are planning to do with your lifestyle changes, just as my doctors did, they told me just to continue to take my medications (at the time over 20 prescribed medications), but when I left my doctor I had made the choice to go all in or not at all, so I bagged all the medications up and stuck them in a drawer, next I cleared all the bad and unsafe foods from my kitchen area, and  tossed them and replaced them with whole plant based foods, this is drastic but necessary!

It was not easy to say the least, because remember I was just like every consumer that eats out as much as possible, due to fast past lifestyles, this I know will surely kill me!  But once I had read the book, everything started to get easier and easier, even my family started to come around once the weight started to drop off!

I thought, give it about 3 months or 12 weeks then if I had lost a good portion of my weight it will have given me the motivation I had needed to push on forward, and at 12 weeks I had weighed myself and saw that I had lost over 28 pounds and it felt very good, so good that I continued and now I have lost over 58 lbs. and counting, and have not looked back...

Today the same pills are still sitting in the drawer as a reminder of what I was doing to myself, along with all my doctors who thought they were giving me the only care they were taught to administer to their patients, but we all cannot put our trust in doctors to save us from this society of Junk Eaters, Pill Poppers, and most of all Cancer Causing Eating of 90% Meat and Poultry (see Casein) that which will start and end your life.

We have been tricked into believing that there is more nutrients in meats and poultry, than fruits and vegetables if you continue to believe this without arming yourselves with the real truth about meat and poultry, then take off the blinders and start reading for yourselves, the FDA already admit they were wrong about the Pyramid we have been using as our guide to better nutrition, it is upside down!

Self-Care over Health-Care who knows you better than you:

Start by reclaiming, and reconfiguring your own lifestyle, first by educating yourself, and eating a plant based, nutrient dense food lifestyle diet, this will allow you to live a long and happy life, free of any possible cancers, or inflammation buildup, that have started to settle in your body years ago, and in most cases survival rate is not too good at all, because the doctors have been treating you all your life have been trained only to treat the symptom, and not the cause, and it is the cause that will eventually kill the patient!

To Recap:
* Start living a lifestyle eating Plant Based foods (90%) and the rest is considered condiments (10%).
* Make sound decisions when it comes to your eating choices, they may just save your life!
* As you begin to remove Meat and Poultry from your diet your life will not be the same ever again!
* Begin by reading the book "Eat to Live" by Dr. Fuhrman, it will give you the education you will need!
* When you decide to start taking your own health and wellness in your own hands track your success!
