The most important part is, making the right choices! |
Eric Bailey hits this one out of the park! His eBook titled "Food Choice and Obesity in Black America: Creating a New Cultural Diet", is a great read for anyone that needs to change their lifestyle of eating habits to one that is more applicable to the times, for their health, and well-being.
Bailey takes us on a cultural train ride through the eyes of African American’s in regards to how they view weight loss, and food through their community, and how it differs from what is called 'mainstream America’. The last chapter is about what Eric Bailey terms "THE NEW BLACK CULTURAL DIET AND LIFESTYLE”. He asks that each African American ask themselves six timely questions, honestly and openly about themselves, their culture, their family, their food, their reality and their body; these are the some of the same questions their doctors should be asking them as new patients, but don’t!
If Doctors, and other Healthcare Professionals which includes the Fitness industries, ever wondered why African Americans are not flocking in, this book will explain why!
By simply overlaying European Ethnic ideals/identities onto Black Americans, a disservice is being done to both ethnicities. Eric Bailey has a catch-phrase that should be on the tip of everyone's tongue, especially in the African American Community: “Culturally Appropriate".
In "Food Choice and Obesity in Black America", the author covers relevant background material to the growing obesity problem in African American communities. Noting historical, familial, religious, peer, and cultural reasons, evidence shows that a different approach should be taken with discussing weight loss, eating habits, exercise routines and social interactions between African Americans.
Bailey doesn't just lecture to White Doctors and African Americans in this timely book. He takes the time to explain why African Americans view Obesity and Food differently than European Americans. Also he explains why African Americans should open up to their doctors; take the time to explain their cultural viewpoints in regards to body type, culture, food preparation, these lifestyle issues are personal and your Doctors should take the time to listen to what you have to say about yourself!
I'm certain no one who will read "Food Choice and Obesity in Black America" will feel offended, never once did I feel talked down to in reading this book!
I’m sure Mr. Bailey did not write this book just to appease his colleagues or friends, and family from the neighborhood, "Food Choice and Obesity in Black America" should be used as a catalyst to encourage us to change our lifestyles before we kill ourselves; this should be all of our concern…
